Vittoria, mio core!
Music: Giacomo Carissimi (1605-1674)
Words: Domenico Benigni (1596-1653)
An atypical Italian song, Vittoria, mio core! speaks not about the beauty of love and lover, but instead the victory of being freed from the clutches of an ungodly, deceitful woman! The song can also be sung by a woman about a lying man. This "victory" is echoed strongly in Carissimi’s march-like waltz with a tempo marking of Allegro con brio.
Carissimi worked in Rome as a church singer and organist. He composed choral works as well as over 150 solo cantatas. Vittoria, mio core! is one of these cantatas.
