Paris chooses Aphrodite, and is rewarded with the love of the most beautiful woman in the world - Helen, queen of Sparta. Gluck was born in Erasbach, now a district of Bavaria. He worked in Vienna and helped bring about reform in opera. His direct style of composing contrasted greatly with the wildly melismatic and virtuosic style that had dominated previously.
