Bel Piacere is from Act 3 of the opera entitled Agrippina, and is sung by the character named Poppaea. Agrippina is a three act opera seria. It was composed for the 1709-1710 Venice Carnevale season. It tells the story of Agrippina, the mother of Nero, and her plan to usurp Emperor Claudius and replace him with her son.
Handel was a German born British composer. He wrote operas, oratorios, and other works. He wrote more than forty operas, many of which have enjoyed revival performances since the late 1960’s.
